A meditation of self actualization and interrogation for the Black woman. Who is she? What are her dreams? What is her name? What does she want? All questions she may ask herself. All questions she may not have had the resources and time to investigate. In society, especially Black culture, the woman's role can seem insurmountable. She is the root to the tree of her community and she often has to place other beings and life happenings before her own identity. This "Strong Black Woman" complex can at times dehumanize her and strip her of her own happiness. This photography project is about reclaiming the Black woman's humanity and allowing her to travel through her own thoughts and dreams, to create that escape and exist in her own utopia, be that tangible or imagined. It is about giving her a space to piece herself together, rest in her humanity and breathe... no doubt she embodies the definition of strength but the Black woman needs to be reminded.. she is human, she does matter.
